San Gimignano

San Gimignano was impressive.  Once again from miles away we could see the walled city.  However, this time we didn't just see the walls.

We saw the towers.  The tallest of which stands 177 feet high and was built in the 1300s.  Amazing!

They call this city "Medieval Manhattan" because the skyline is just like a modern day city with all the towers, but without elevators!

Narrow brick and stone streets take you up and down the hills throughout the city.  There are only 600 local residents that live in the city now.

Staying overnight inside the city was a fun experience.  Once most of the tourist left for the night, the city was all "ours".  There are not many typical street lights, so some of the streets are very dark. But we were still able to get some great night photos with the camera's flash.

If you want to see more pictures of our days in San Gimignano please feel free to look through our San Gimignano Album.
