Venice

Saturday 9/28/2019 - We arrived at Venice (VCE) Airport in late morning.  We had a reservation with Taxi Venezia.  Our AirBnB host, Jacobo met the taxi and walked us to our apartment.  We settled our luggage in the apartment and explored the city for the afternoon.  We didn't have anything specific scheduled that day, since it was our "travel day".

We found a cute restaurant and sat outside
to enjoy our first meal in Venice.  The small
canals and back roads were nice and quiet
compared to the crowded streets near all
the attractions.

There are no cars as you get near the center of the city.  So you either walk through the streets or take a boat.  Make sure you keep your phone charged or you
Rialto Bridge
have a map because it is VERY easy to get lost walking through the small roads.

Sunday 9/29/2019 - We had a 11:45am Doge's Palace special tour "Hidden Treasures of the Doge".  We visited the Rialto Bridge on our way to St. Mark's Square.
St. Mark's Cathedral

St. Mark's Square

The tour allowed us to skip the lines and go directly into the palace.  The skip the line tours are well worth the money in Italy!  After the tour we waited in line about 30 minutes to walk through St. Mark's Cathedral.  It was worth the wait.  The architecture and artwork was amazing!
Doge's Palace

If you look closely in the picture above, you can see high tide has flooded a portion of St. Mark's Square.  Apparently this is normal.  Within a month after we left that water was over 18 inches deep!

St. Mark's Clock Tower

These are pictures we took during our tour of the palace.  You can see that the artwork on the walls and ceilings are something!

We didn't take the time to climb the clock tower.  I am sure the view would have been great!

Monday 9/30/2019 - We dropped our luggage off at the train station for storage, then took the ACTV to Murano Island.

We only had a few hours before our train.  So we did went to a glass blowing tour, had a quick lunch and walked around for a little while.  Then we took the ACTV back to the train.

One more day in Venice would have been great.  We would have liked to explore the city a little more, spend a little more time at Murano Island and  visit Burano Island.

If you want to see more pictures of our days in Venice please feel free to look through our Venice Album
